PERFECT, PERFECT: NU completes second straight season sweep
PERFECT, PERFECT. The last time the NU Lady Bulldogs lost was back in 2013 and they have two championship to show for all their dominance.

For the second year in a row, National University found no match in the UAAP Women’s Basketball Tournament.

Ateneo de Manila University got the start they wanted at the Blue Eagle Gym, Sunday, but the Lady Bulldogs just had too much firepower for a 75-55 triumph that left no doubt in finishing off another perfect season.

After not having won the championship since the Women’s division was established in 1950, Sampaloc now has two trophies to show and they claimed both in the most dominant of manners.

The Lady Bulldogs have been perfect in their past 32 outings and they experienced their last loss on October 5, 2013 in Game Three of the Finals.

This season’s Game Two seemed headed to go down the wire with the Lady Eagles able to keep and step, only behind 6-10, after the opening salvo. NU’s 13-8 blast to start the second quarter swatted away those thoughts and they never looked back from that point.

Season MVP Afril Bernardino was also hailed as Finals MVP with another fine performance in the deciding contest with 18 points, 17 rebounds, and three steals. She led three other Lady Bulldogs in double-digits.

Jolina Go did everything in her power with a total of 19 points to keep Ateneo in the game only to see their opponents overwhelm the rest of her team. Still, a runner-up finish is an unquestionable success for a squad that wasn’t even projected to contend in the preseason.
