LONG TIME, NO SEE. NU and Ateneo finally meet again now in the UAAP 78.
Games on Saturday at the Blue Eagle Gym
9:00 AM – UE vs UPIS
11:00 AM – UST vs FEU-Diliman
1:00 PM – Adamson vs DLSZ
3:00 PM – NU vs Ateneo
The much-anticipated rematch between the defending champions and reigning runners-up is finally here and it promises not to disappoint as it brings along major implications in the UAAP 78 Juniors Basketball Tournament.
Reigning runners-up Nazareth School of National University only need to hurdle on Saturday at the Blue Eagle Gym defending champion Ateneo de Manila High School to finish a first round sweep and position themselves as the unquestionable top dog in the tournament.
Nothing will come easy, however, especially with the Blue Eaglets recognizing how high the stakes are in the matchup that starts at 3:00 PM. As team captain Jolo Mendoza put it, “We know na if we don’t beat them now, mahihirapan na kaming mahabol sila.”
Along with one of the league’s finest all-around players in Mendoza, Ateneo is also confident about its chances in wielding a five-game winning streak following a season-opening defeat.
Still, the Bullpups’ 6-0 start stands as the more impressive feat and the troop led by towering Justine Baltazar and do-it-all John Lloyd Clemente want nothing more than to stay perfect.
Before the rematch of last year’s Finals, De La Salle Zobel battles Adamson High School at 1:00 PM to keep themselves among the league-leaders. Aljun Melecio drives the 5-1 Junior Archers’ high-octane offense against the Baby Falcons who are in the midst of a two-game slide coming from a 3-1 record.
In the day’s other games, University of the East and University of the Philippines Integrated School dispute win number one at 9:00 AM while Far Eastern University-Diliman eyes solo fourth at the expense of University of Sto. Tomas High School at 11:00 AM.
