BREAKTHROUGH. The talented Will Gozum and Gomez de Liano brothers finally tasted triumph in UAAP 78.

Making their big brothers proud, Far Eastern University-Diliman dominated University of Sto. Tomas High School from start to finish in the 78th Season of the UAAP Men’s Basketball Tournament.

Eric Jabel scored a career-high 16 points and the Baby Tamaraws rode a 21-6 start all the way to a 61-40 decision over the Tiger Cubs on Saturday at the Blue Eagle Gym.

FEU survived turning the ball over 30 times by only allowing their opponents to shoot 22 percent from the field, including a ghastly nine percent from downtown. LJ Gonzales and Kenji Roman added 12 and 10 points, respectively, as the Baby Tams moved to solo fourth at 4-3.

Meanwhile, a talented University of the Philippines Integrated School finally barged into the win column after dropping a 35-point mallet on the University of the East, 104-69.

The Gomez de Liano brothers owned the contest, each tallying an almost triple-double with Javi posting 25 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists while younger Juan collected 23 markers, eight dishes, and 12 boards. “Para akong nabunutan ng tinik,” a joyous coach Allan Gregorio said after his Junior Maroons rose to 1-6.

On the other hand, the Junior Warriors became the only team still without a win through seven games in the first round. Kobe Camarillo had 16 points in their losing effort.
