NEXT RAVENA. Thirdy Ravena is raring to return and step into the shoes of older brother Kiefer.

Kiefer Ravena, he of the back-to-back MVP awards, played his last game for Ateneo de Manila University last November.

With “The Phenom” moving onto the professional ranks, who better to replace him than the next Ravena who’s already in Katipunan?

And we mean that literally as waiting in the wings, ready to redeem his self is Thirdy.

The younger Ravena missed out on the chance to play alongside his brother in his farewell season after running through some problems with his grades. Strict about their players meeting their academic requirements, the Blue Eagles ruled Thirdy ineligible for what was supposed to be his sophomore year.

Even with the next season still a ways away, the former Juniors MVP said that he wouldn’t be running into the same problems once again. In fact, he was proud to share that his grades have been the best they have ever been.

As he told ABS-CBN Sports, “It’s really good. This sem is the highest that I got and I’m really happy that the dedication I had this sem bore fruit.”

Even so, the younger Ravena said his place in Ateneo’s lineup next season is yet to be set in stone. “I’ve been training by myself, pero iba pa rin pag-team kayong nagte-training. I’m just waiting for that opportunity to train again with the team and hopefully come back next year,” he said.

In his mind, Thirdy believes that how he has worked on his academics has earned him a second chance to be a Blue Eagle. “The probability is higher kasi yung grades ko was higher than what I expected din,” he said.

Asked about it, team manager Epok Quimpo simply said to ABS-CBN Sports, "Given that his grades are good, he is eligible to play."

And when he does make his return, Ravena promised, “Hindi ako magre-relax (in academics) kasi yun yung nangyari sa akin e. Hindi pwede maging complacent.”
