40-point man Melecio was Ayo’s most-wanted recruit

IT FEELS SO GOOD. Aldin Ayo and Aljun Melecio are looking forward to re-uniting with each another.
For those who still didn’t know who in the world Aljun Jay Aloba Melecio is even after he torched archrival Ateneo de Manila High School to start the season, he made another introduction last Saturday.
Staying true to his calling card as a scoring dynamo, the gunslinger bombed down 41 points, built on seven long-range missiles, in an efficient 14/29 mark from the field. It only made it even more poignant that he did it against Far Eastern University-Diliman – a program long-known for developing high-scoring guards.
With a couple of 40-point outbursts under his belt, is there even any doubt why new De La Salle University head coach Aldin Ayo made it his top priority to secure the services of their program’s brightest prospect?
“Siya talaga unang-unang pinaasikaso ko sa management pagpasok ko sa La Salle,” Ayo shared with ABS-CBN Sports.
Indeed, Melecio’s commitment came not long after the Green Archers officially named the NCAA champion as their new mentor. “Kilalang-kilala ko na kasi laro niya: magaling tapos matapang,” the DLSU coach said.
It’s actually a reunion of sorts for the two as Ayo, then only a coach starting his career, handled Melecio, then only a kid with loads of talent, in the Jr. NBA back in 2012.
Excited to be back together with his Jr. NBA mentor, the 40-point man told ABS-CBN Sports, “Gustong-gusto ko na ulit matuto kay coach Aldin.”
