The ladies from UE want to show everyone what they can do
“Gusto naming ipakita sa lahat na eto na 'yung newly-improved and ready to fight na UE Lady Warriors. Abangan na lang nila kami.” - new team captain and rookie hitter Celine Domingo

UAAP Volleyball titles won: 5

Last Title: UAAP Season 35/1972-1973 (Co-champions with FEU)

Season 77 record: 0-14 (8th place)

Head coach: Francis Vicente

It’s been quite a while since the UE Lady Red Warriors saw themselves coming out victorious in a UAAP volleyball match. Their last win was way back in UAAP Season 74.

With Season 77 ending with another winless record and another last place finish, even under the watch of highly-respected mentor Francis Vicente, the Lady Red Warriors are looking forward to Season 78 with the hopes of finally showing everyone just what they’re capable of on the volleyball court. Towards the latter part of Season 78, they showed glimpses of that warrior spirit.

“Sobrang gustong-gusto na lumaban, hindi na worrier, kundi, warrior,” third-year hitter Shaya Adorador said when asked about what they want to showcase during the upcoming season.

Adorador, who’s among the more experienced members of the Lady Red Warriors roster, will be taking on more of a leadership role, especially with the departure of Leuseht Dawis.

“Seniors kami, may mga ka-batch ako na third year, wala pang ga-graduate, so kami yung inaatasan ni coach na mag-lead ng team,” Adorador told ABS-CBN Sports.

Adorador along with fellow third-year players Jasmine Alcayde and Angelica Dacaymat will be leading a team which features of a handful of sophomores, including Season 77 co-Rookie of The Year Kathleen Arado, and seven rookies.

Among the newbies, Adorador mentioned a couple who she expected will deliver in Season 78.

“Lahat po sila para sa akin, pero ang pinaka, lalo na na nasa first six siya, and malaki naman sa ngayon yung nako-contribute niya, si Celine Domingo,” said Adorador.

The 5’9’’ hitter Domingo, a product of Bethel Academy in General Trias, will be heading into her rookie season as the team captain of the Lady Red Warriors.

Right off the bat, captain Celine says that this will be a whole new team from last season.

“Gusto naming ipakita sa lahat na eto na 'yung newly-improved and ready to fight na UE Lady Warriors. Abangan na lang nila kami.” Domingo told ABS-CBN Sports. “We promise that we will give them a good fight every game. Ilalabas namin lahat.”

The other rook that Adorador pointed out was setter Dana Disquitado, a product of the Holy Rosary College in Santa Rosa, Laguna.

A new season, a new captain, and a younger squad, can these new and improved Lady Red Warriors finally find success in the UAAP?

Upside: Hunger. Three years of rotting in the cellar is enough motivation.

Downside: Morale. Again a three-year winless drought could do damage to a team's psyche.
