Dela Cruz is technically still the coach for UST.
The off-court drama continues for the UST Growling Tigers.
Head coach Bong dela Cruz, who was reportedly fired, is technically still with the team although he cannot attend UST practices because of an ongoing investigation.
In a report by the Varsitarian, Fr. Ermito de Sagon, O.P., director of the Institute of Physical Education, said that dela Cruz is being investigated "about our basketball program in reference to the University's policies."
"I cannot call it a preventive suspension because we have not suspended him, de Sagon said according to the Varsitarian. "When there is an investigation, the usual thing is that they will not [perform their duties."
Dela Cruz was absent in the team's practice last Monday.
Reports have surfaced that dela Cruz, who led the Growling Tigers to the UAAP finals in his second year on the bench, has been fired although his contract runs until April after he signed an extension last year.
This comes on the heels of another report that UST has disbanded the Growling Tigers after issues of game-fixing.
