De La Salle University and University of the East cross paths in their 78th UAAP men's volleyball tournament opener.
Raymark Woo makes his return to action as he leads De La Salle University in its 78th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament opening day face off with University of the East Red Warriors on Wednesday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
Head coach Ronald Dulay assigned Woo, who sat out last year’s contest due to an ACL injury on his left knee, as team captain and his leadership will be tested in the 10:00 a.m. match that will air live on ABS-CBN Sports+Action Channel 23, ABS-CBN Sports+Action HD Channel 166 and via livestream at sports.abs-cbn.com/livestream/uaap.
The Taft-based squad finished sixth last season and missed the Final Four for the second straight year.
With Woo back in the fold together with holdovers Mike Frey, John Onia, and Cris Dumago, DLSU expects a better finish this time.
But the Red Warriors are also looking to end the anguish of last season’s winless campaign.
“Ready na kaming manalo, ready na kaming lumaban,” said Season 77 Rookie of the Year and UE skipper Edward Camposano.
Back to give support to Camposano are Samuel Lelic, Angelu Noel Alba, Roniey Adviento and setter Christian Gopio.
Injected to the young squad are Ruvince Abrot, playmaker Adrian Imperial, Geric Rodmar Ortega and Patrick Yen Cheung – all members of the former UAAP high school champion UE Junior Warriors, who dominated the competition for 11 straight years from 2004 to 2014.
