Madzlan Gampong of National University attempts to block Adamson University's Bryan Saraza in their 78th UAAP men's volleyball match.
National University banked on its solid net coverage and balanced attacks to blank Adamson University, 25-22, 25-22, 25-7, to open its campaign in the 78th UAAP men's volleyball tournament Wednesday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
The Bulldogs scored nine kill blocks against the much smaller Falcons with Francis Saura and Madzlan Gampong contributing three each.
NU, last year's runner up, joined defending champion Ateneo de Manila and Far Eastern University in the opening day winners' list.
James Natividad smashed nine kills in his 11-point output to pace the Bulldogs while Bryan Bagunas also chipped in 11 markers. Gampong finished with nine points.
After two hard-fought set wins, the Bulldogs unleashed its wrath in the third frame to take the fight out of the Falcons to seal the 67-minute match.
Adamson, which defeated NU in the Intercollegiate title last year during the offseason, committed 27 errors.
No player from coach Domingo Custodio's team scored on double figures with Bryan Saraza posting only nine points.
Team captain Michael Sudaria also had a bad season debut as NU held him to only three markers.
