Adamson University is gunning for a sixth straight UAAP softball crown.
Adamson University sent a chilling message to the rest of the competition as they played their first game in the UAAP Season 78 Softball tournament on Monday, February 1, 2016 at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Field.
The Lady Falcons needed only four innings to defeat the University of Sto. Tomas via the mercy rule, 10-0. It was the first loss for the Tigresses, who won their first game against the University of the East last January 30.
Queenie Sabobo homered in the second inning as the six-peat seeking Lady Falcons scored four runs to pull away for good, 6-0.
Sabobo, the reigning Home Run queen, also had five RBIs to lead the way for Adamson University, which also leaned on solid pitching from two-time MVP Analie Benjamen.
Among last season’s championship team, only Clariz Palma, who played the catcher position and Lyn-lyn Opjer are no longer part of this year’s lineup that is aiming to win its sixth straight title. Key returnees are shortstop Sabobo, Krisna Paguican and Benjamen. All three are playing in their final UAAP season.
In the second game, National University edged Ateneo de Manila University with a 2-1 victory to stay unbeaten in two games. The Lady Eagles lost their second straight game after falling to the University of the Philippines on opening day.
Finally, UE prevailed over De La Salle University in a thrilling fashion, winning 5-4 after a hit from Imee Salvador. The Lady Warriors improved to 1-1 while the Lady Archers remained winless at 2-0.
