UP IN THE AIR. Rensy Bajar is still under contract with UP, but whether or not he's still the head coach is unclear.
Amid rumblings that their staff is once again in flux, manager Dan Palami confirmed that decision-makers for the University of the Philippines men’s basketball team are indeed discussing their head coaching position.
“We are exchanging ideas,” Palami told ABS-CBN Sports.
Reports have surfaced that Bo Perasol, formerly of Ateneo de Manila University, has emerged as a serious contender to become the Fighting Maroons’ new mentor. This, even though the school has yet to officially announce that Rensy Bajar, who handled the squad last season, no longer has the position.
Explaining the situation a little bit better, the team manager said, “It’s all tentative. (There is) nothing final.”
Palami went on to clarify that Bajar is still under contract with UP. “We will still have to talk about his status,” he said.
For his part, Perasol confirmed that he has been talking with the Fighting Maroons, but pointed out that those were “initial discussions” and that “everything is just exploratory.”
He also added, “There is nothing else I can say or confirm.”
ABS-CBN Sports also tried to get in touch with Bajar, but he is yet to respond as of press time.
