University of the East and Adamson University face off in a duel of opening day losers.
The Adamson University Falcons and the hard-luck University of the East Red Warriors meet in a battle of opening day losers Saturday in the 78th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
Only the hungrier team will barge in the win column while the victim will be buried deeper in the cellar.
Game time is set at 8:00 a.m.
Adamson absorbed an awful 22-25, 22-25, 7-25, beating at the hands of Season 77 runner up National University. It took the Bulldogs only 61 minutes to dispose the Falcons.
No Adamson player reached double digit scoring the last time out with Bryan Saraza posting only nine points.
It didn’t help that skipper Michael Sudaria was silenced to only three points while Season 77 Best Digger and Best Receiver Rence Melgar had a disappointing start.
The Red Warriors were not as lucky either.
UE gave De La Salle a hard time in each sets before succumbing to an 18-25, 26-28, 24-26, defeat at the hands of the Green Spikers.
In fact the Recto-based squad reached set point first in the last two frames but just couldn't close out the sets.
The Red Warriors’ losing streak extended to 15 since a listless outing in last year’s edition. UE’s woes worsened as the Red Warriors lost sophomore middle Samuel Lelic Jr. to a dislocated left ankle early in the second set.
Freshman Ruvince Abrot was a bright spot for UE as he debuted with 12 points while last year’s Rookie of the Year and team captain Edward Camposano had 11 markers.
Head coach Ruel Pascual’s boys need to step up big time if they want to end their miserable series of misfortunes.
