FINALLY. Aljun Melecio's win over Justine Baltazar for the MVP award also represents DLSZ's first win over NU this season.

De La Salle Zobel is 0-for-2 against Nazareth School of National University in the UAAP 78 Juniors Basketball Tournament.

Now at the end of the elimination round, however, the Junior Archers finally scored one against the Bullpups with Aljun Melecio taking the MVP award home to Alabang.

The scoring dynamo, who has a couple of 40-point outings in the season, wound up with 78.9 Statistical Points (SPs) built on averages of 22.7 points, 3.3 assists, 7.1 rebounds, and 2.3 steals.

The future Green Archer expressed happiness about getting the nod, but also said that he remains focused on taking the championship home to Alabang. “I’m super blessed, but there’s nothing to celebrate. Hindi pa tapos yung season,” he told ABS-CBN Sports.

Melecio is the first DLSZ player to win the MVP award. Simon Atkins and Joshua Webb came closest back when they were Mythical selecions.

Melecio edged out NU’s Justine Baltazar who finished a close second with 76.6 SPs. The 6’7” center was the league’s most consistent contributor with per game counts of 13.4 points, 13.5 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks.

Baltazar’s partner-in-crime John Lloyd Clemente wound up third in the race.

The season’s Mythical Team will be announced at a later date.
