Ateneo de Manila is looking to extend its winning run to three and for the solo lead.
Like a well-oiled machine, defending champion Ateneo de Manila is chopping down any opposition blocking its way.
The Blue Eagles want to add the Adamson Falcons to their list of victims Wednesday in a rematch of last year’s semifinals showdown in the 78th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Ateneo will march in the 10:00 a.m. game that will air live over ABS-CBN Sports+Action Channel 23, ABS-CBN Sports+Action HD Channel 166 and via livestream at sports.abs-cbn.com/livestream/uaap looking to reassert it mastery over the Falcons and take the solo lead.
The Blue Eagles and last year’s runner up National University share the top spot with immaculate 2-0 win-loss cards.
“Walang team na pwedeng bale-walain lahat nagpe-prepare so kami rin kailangang maghanda,” said Ateneo coach Oliver Almadro, whose wards turned back the Far Eastern University Tamaraws in straight sets, 25-18, 25-19, 25-13, last Saturday.
Adamson is tangled in a four-way logjam in third to sixth place with 1-1 card tied with FEU, De La Salle University and University of the Philippines.
The Falcons barged in the win column after pecking the hapless University of the East Red Warriors to submission in three sets, 25-18, 25-14, 25-23, four days ago.
Dave Pletado, Bryan Saraza and Jerome Sarmiento scored 10 points each in Adamson’s last assignment.
But taking down the Blue Eagles is a not an easy task.
Ateneo proved that it is not just a Marck Espejo-centered squad.
Ysay Marasigan, Rex Intal and Joshua Villanueva are also giving their share on offense, giving the opposing team a hard time on who to mark in the Blue Eagles roster.
