De La Salle University's errors did them in.
Surging National University pounced on the shocked Lady Spikers as DLSU absorbed an early upset 16-25, 24-26, 25-14, 23-25 against the now confident Lady Bulldogs, Wednesday in the 78th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
NU nicked DLSU’s erstwhile pristine record to force a two-way tie for second to third spot after three games behind league-leading defending two-time champion Ateneo de Manila.
Lady Spikers head coach Ramil de Jesus pointed out that they lost because of their errors – an atrocious 31 miscues – and the lack of leadership and cohesiveness inside the court including some other factors that contributed to DLSU’s cold start.
"Nu'ng nakuha na ng NU ang confidence, nahirapan ng bumalik ang mga bata," said De Jesus, who with his team had to wait for more than an hour for Ateneo de Manila's men's team to vacate their assigned dugout and had to endure the cold outside.
Still, De Jesus considered their loss a learning experience and a minor bump in their journey to regain the title that eluded them for two years.
