NU meets UE, UST battles Adamson in UAAP 78 Football debut
Star senior Paolo Salenga (19) of NU will look to bring the Bulldogs to their first ever Final Four appearance this season

February 11, Thursday Fixtures (Moro Lorenzo Field)

1:00 PM – UST vs. Adamson

3:00 PM – NU vs. UE

After just barely missing out on the playoffs last season, the National University Bulldogs will be looking to start their season strong when they take on the University of the East Red Warriors, Thursday afternoon at the Moro Lorenzo Field in Ateneo.

Now on his last playing year for NU, star striker Paolo Salenga will look to do all that he can to help bring the Sampaloc-based booters to their first ever trip to the UAAP Final Four.

Backing Salenga up will be the returning Arnel Casil, Francis Abalunan, and Darwin Regala, as well as a couple of new faces in Simplicio Mantal and Marvin Viray.

The first test for the Bulldogs comes in the form of a hungry UE team, led by captain Jeffrey Lacsamana.

Last season, the Red Warriors found themselves in another losing season, finishing seventh in the standings, but showed a lot of potential in their outings.

Among the things to look out for this season in UE is the arrival of rookie Mar Vincent Diano, whom Lacsamana says has been powering the Red Warriors offense so far.

Can the NU Bulldogs score an early win, or will the UE Red Warriors make an immediate impact in Season 78?

In the earlier match, the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers will also look to get some early season points as they take on a young Adamson Falcons squad.

While last season, the UST Tigers found themselves somewhere in the middle of the pack, they were able to put the pressure on a few of the league’s top-tier teams and notch a handful of wins of their own.

This season will be different however, as the Espanya-based squad will be marching on without Gino Clarino and last season’s leading goal-scorer Steven Anotado, who suffered an ACL injury.

A handful of seniors have returned to the lineup, however, and will look to pick up the slack that Clarino and Anotado have left behind.

After showing tremendous heart late last season, the Adamson Falcons are now more confidend heading into Season 78. No longer rookies, this young squad will look to show that they belong with the best of them this year.

Brothers Bless Brian I and Bless Brian II Jumo will be steering the Falcons as they look to claim their first ever UAAP Football victory.
