The DLSU Green Archers are off to a hot start, winning their first two games in the UAAP Season 78 Men's Football tournament
For the second game in a row, a rookie made an impact for the De La Salle Green Archers, as Jed Diamante scored his first UAAP goal to help beat University of the Philippines, 1-0, Saturday evening at the McKinley Hill Stadium.
The tightly contested first half saw both squads get golden opportunites to alter the scoreboards, but niether could produce, as the stalemate continued on midway into the second half.
In the 62nd minute, Greggy Yang found Diamante, who headed the ball straight into the back the net.
With an eternity of time left before the final whistle, UP tried to find the equalizer, with the best opportunity coming from Kyle Magdato in injury time, but still couldn't produce and the Archers held on for their second win of the season.
"I was very emotional when I scored that goal," said Jed, the younger brother of team captain Gelo and former captain Gio.
"That goal, it's not for me, it's for the whole team and for the whole La Salle community." Jed added.
The Archers stay hot after defeating Ateneo in their first game and move two wins in two games for six points, while UP falls to one draw and one win in two games with one point.
