MY WAY. Toni Rose Basas took the spotlight away from erstwhile scoring leader Cherry Rondina.
With UAAP 78 Women’s Volleyball Tournament scoring leader Cherry Rondina across the net from them, Toni Rose Basas took the chance to showcase that she can pour it on as well.
Basas collected 19 points, including all but one of the last six for Far Eastern University that closed out their four-set triumph, 25-22, 25-18, 15-25, 25-23, over University of Sto. Tomas at the San Juan Arena, Saturday.
The second-year spiker’s late spurt turned what was once a 19-21 deficit for the Lady Tamaraws into an eventual fourth set match-clincher. Proud of his girl, coach Shaq Delos Santos said, “Napapakita niya na nagagawa na niya yung galing niya sa ensayo.”
Augmenting Basas’ output was a defense that held Rondina to only 14 points – far from her 25.5 average prior to the match. “Kelangan na kelangan namin talaga ng panalo,” Delos Santos said as his squad improved to 2-2.
Mela Tunay had 16 points which still proved insufficient to move the Golden Tigresses out of the basement now at 0-3.
