Ateneo de Manila hopes to bounce back big time on Sunday to take back its lead position in the standings but expects a tough challenge versus De La Salle.
It’s back to the drawing board for the repeat-seeking Ateneo de Manila Blue Eagles after slamming to an early road block in the 78th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament.
Head coach Oliver Almadro and his boys hope to bounce back big time on Sunday to remain in the lead but expect a tough challenge when they face De La Salle in the 10:00 a.m. encounter at The Arena in San Juan.
The game will air live over ABS-CBN Sports+Action HD Channel 166 and via livestream at sports.abs-cbn.com/livestream/uaap.
Ateneo’s character will be tested against the Green Spikers, who are also looking to get back on the winning track after getting swept by the National University Bulldogs, 23-25, 23-25, 20-25, last week.
Better preparation and the proper execution of their game plan, according to Almadro, are the keys for his team to rebound from a loss and to avoid giving away too many free points off errors like the 37 they committed in the 19-25, 25-27, 25-22, 24-26, 13-15, loss to the Falcons.
“We have to prepare for every team because they are preparing for us,” said Almadro, also the national men’s team coach. “Sa ngayon we are not no.1 now so I guess hindi na nila kami titingnan. So we’ll have the luxury to prepare na, “Hoy, hindi na tayo no. 1 so kailangan na naming mag-prepare pa.”
Five teams share the first to fifth spot with Ateneo, National University, University of the Philippines, Adamson and Far Eastern University posting identical 2-1 win-loss records.
The Green Spikers are in sixth spot with 1-1 slate.
