Season 77 runners-up UP bested UST in a high-scoring affair for their first win of the season.
Kali Navea-Huff scored two of her three goals in the first half, while Cristina De los Reyes and Angeliza Sta. Clara each scored one goal apiece to lead University of the Philippines past University of Santo Tomas in their UAAP Season 78 Women's Football debut, Sunday afternoon at the McKinley Hill Stadium.
The first half belonged to last season's runners-up, going into the midgame break with a commanding 3-0 lead courtesy of a brace from Navea-Huff in the 26th and 39th minute, while De los Reyes chipped in with a conversion of her own in the 31st.
In the second frame, the Tigresses showed more fight, beginning with Charisa Lemoran, who pulled one back in the 58th mark.
Navea-Huff wouldn't let the Tigresses get too comfortable, however, as she completed her hat trick with a third goal in the 68th minute.
Jennizel Cabalan knocked in the second goal for the UST in the 70th minute, but Sta. Clara gave the Lady Maroons a little more breathing room with a fifth goal in the 72nd mark.
Niña Acuña recorded one last goal for the Tigresses in injury time, as the Lady Maroons held on to win, 5-3.
UP claims solo second place with three points, behind only DLSU, while Ateneo, UP, and UST all have one loss each.
