University of the East and University of Sto. Tomas dispute a taste of first victory.
Listless teams University of the East Lady Warriors and University of Sto. Tomas Golden Tigresses seek to avoid getting buried deeper down the cellar of the 78th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan.
The two squads cross paths at 2:00 p.m. in the match that will air live over ABS-CBN Sports+Action Channel 23, ABS-CBN Sports+Action HD Channel 166 and via livestream at sports.abs-cbn.com/livestream/uaap.
Even with an almost intact veteran roster and Cherry Rondina piling up monster numbers on offense, the Tigresses struggle to find their way to the win column after three tries as the Espana-based squad slid down south in an unfamiliar position tied with the Lady Warriors.
Carmela Tunay finally woke up of a scoring slump last Saturday, but her 16-point production to help Rondina, EJ Laure, Ria Meneses and Chlodia Cortez went down the drain in UST’s 22-25, 18-25, 25-15, 23-25, loss to the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws.
But against the slumping Recto-based team, the Tigresses are the favored side.
The Lady Warriors are on a 48-game losing streak since the last three games of the eliminations of Season 74.
UE was beaten black and blue by the National University Lady Bulldogs, 12-25, 13-25, 16-25, last Sunday.
Head coach Francis Vicente could be looking at another headache if his wards led by Shaya Adorador, Judith Abil, Angelica Dacaymat and rookie Celine Domingo won’t step up their respective games.
