Jaja Santiago's play has NU rolling to three straight wins.
Week 2 of the UAAP Season 78 Women's Volleyball tournament is in the books and it looks like it's going to be a triple threat showdown to the end.
At least for now.
After a rather disappointing debut, the NU Lady Bulldogs have made their move on top of the standings thanks to their very own Tower of Power.
Looking at the other contenders, Ateneo and La Salle have been pretty much status quo from last week with the Lady Eagles continue to win and the Kim Fajardo finding new ways for the Lady Spikers' offense.
The rest of the field are scrambling to find their footing though as the FEU Lady Tamaraws struggle to put together a winning streak, Adamson and UP doing okay but nothing really special yet while UE and UST just want to get that elusive first win.
Week 2 of the UAAP Season 78 Women's Volleyball tournament is in the books and why don't we all take a look at what the numbers told us from the last three game days.
The number of points scored by back-to-back MVP Alyssa Valdez for the still undefeated Ateneo Lady Eagles, the best in the league after this week.
While a little over 17 points per game is already impressive, we feel that Valdez still has another level in her game. She might not need to use it though especially with the way the Lady Eagles have been winning lately.
Blocks scored by La Salle's Mary Joy Baron in their loss to the National University Lady Bulldogs last Feb. 10.
Her outstanding defensive performance paved the way for her to take over the blocking category this early in the tournament and while it came in a loss, it showed that the Lady Spikers are more than just their big 3.
The number of points each scored by the NU trio of Jaja Santiago, Myla Pablo and Jorelle Singh in the Lady Bulldogs' impressive win over La Salle.
After a slow start, the Lady Bulldogs are slowly rounding into form and they are showing that NU is a legitimate contender for the UAAP title. More scoring outbursts like that one and the NU offense is going to be pretty hard to stop.
Speaking of the Lady Bulldogs, they have now won three straight games, the second-longest active streak next to the undefeated Lady Bulldogs.
At 3-1, they can close out the elimination round strong as well with games against UST, UP and FEU, teams that are struggling to find their footing so far this season.
Jaja Santiago's success rate, the best in the UAAP.
Part of NU's recent surge has been the play of Jaja Santiago, and the towering spiker is ultra efficient with her attacks.
Try 45 out of an even 100.
Not only that, she's also the seventh best blocker so far, truly a tower of power and an anchor for National University.
