YEAR OF THE DOG? NU continues its winning streak with two players making the Mythical Team.
Nazareth School of National University has yet again bested co-Finalist De La Salle Zobel.
Two Bullpups, Justine Baltazar and John Lloyd Clemente, have been named into the Mythical Team in the UAAP 78 Juniors Basketball Tournament – one more than the Junior Archers who only have MVP Aljun Melecio.
The key cogs to NU’s contention finished second and third in the MVP race. Towering Baltazar led the league in rebounds (13.5/game) and blocks (2.5/game) while also contributing 13.4 points per game and versatile Clemente normed an all-around 16.4 points, 7.9 rebounds, and two assists.
The recruits from Pampanga and the rest of the Bullpups wield a thrice-to-beat advantage in the Finals against Melecio and DLSZ.
Rounding out the Mythical Team are the Gomez de Liano brothers of University of the Philippines Integrated School. Their team only won thrice, but the two undoubtedly starred during the season with the older Javi averaging 15.2 points and 8.5 rebounds and the younger Juan producing 15.6 points, 4.5 assists, and 8.2 rebounds per game.
The other two playoff squads – Ateneo de Manila High School and Far Eastern University-Diliman – had no representatives in the Mythical Team.
Meanwhile, Adamson High School’s future just got a lot brighter with Carl Tamayo bagging Rookie of the Year honors. The first-year center showed much promise with per game counts of five points, 5.2 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks.
