Matches on Thursday, February 18 (Moro Lorenzo Field)

Surging National University will look to continue their hot start as they face their toughest test to date in defending champions Far Eastern University, Thursday afternoon at the Moro Lorenzo Field.
With two clear wins in their first two matches, the NU Bulldogs are currently on top of the UAAP Men’s Football world, and they remain as the only team yet to get scored on.
Senior Bulldog Nico Macapal has emerged as one of NU’s primary offensive weapons early in the season, leading the league in goals converted with three in two matches, while team captain Paolo Salenga still remains as one of the league’s most dangerous strikers, already netting two conversions of his own this season.
While NU’s first two wins were against last season’s bottom two squads, and Thursday’s match will put the Bulldogs to the test early this season.
After opening the season with a scoreless draw against UP, the FEU Tamaraws got back to their usual, high-scoring ways last Saturday, demolishing Ateneo de Manila to the tune of 5-2 for their first win of the season.
Rookie Rico Andes was one of the main sparks for the defending kings, chipping in a brace to get the Tams on the winners’ row.
Team captain Paolo Bugas, scored his first goal of the season against Ateneo last Saturday, said that they’ll keeping an eye out for the NU Bulldogs’ main gunner in Salenga.
“Si Salenga yung target striker nila, and mabibilis yung wingers nila, so yun yung paghahandaan namin.”
In the afternoon’s first match, another team looks to stay on top of the heap, as also-perfect De La Salle University meets University of Santo Tomas.
After dispatching Ateneo in their opening contest, the DLSU Green Archers found themselves having a tougher time to score in their second outing against UP. That was until rookie Jed Diamante gave the Archers a sigh of relief with a late goal and the win.
The Taft-based squad is no doubt looking to repeat last season, wherein they finished the eliminations at the top of the standings, but of course, there’s still a whole lot of football to be played this season.
The next challenge for last season’s runners-up is a UST squad who wants to return to the win column after figuring in a scoreless draw against University of the East, Sunday evening.
UST opened Season 78 with a 2-1 win over Adamson back in February 11, and hoped to be able to join DLSU and NU at the top of the standings, but the undermanned Tigers, who lost Marvin Bricenio to injury in the first game, and senior Ronald Batisla-ong to a red card in the second game, had to settle for a draw.
