UST challenges NU for first winning run
University of Sto. Tomas eye to score back-to-back victories against National University.

After scoring its first win in four tries, University of Sto. Tomas hopes to start to turn its campaign around against a team that is on a roll on Saturday in the 78th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The Tigresses waylaid the listless University of the East Lady Warriors, 18-25, 8-25, 23-25, last Wednesday to shake off their rusty start.

But UST need to put their A game once more in the 4:00 p.m. match when they meet powerhouse National University Lady Bulldogs, who are on a three-game winning streak.

Gametime will air live over ABS-CBN Sports+Action Channel 23, ABS-CBN Sports+Action HD Channel 166 and via livestream at

Myla Pablo, 6-foot-5 Jaja Santiago and Jorelle Singh pose a threat in the Tigresses defensive line as the troika found their chemistry in their impressive run since the Lady Bulldogs bowed down to the defending champion Ateneo de Manila Lady Eagles to open the season.

NU is coming off a one week break after scalping the Lady Warriors, 12-25, 13-25, 16-25 for a 3-1 win-loss slate the Lady Bullogs share with De La Salle Lady Spikers behind league-leading Ateneo (4-0).

The Tigresses will again bank on skipper EJ Laure and spitfire Cherry Rondina, who scored 16 and 12 points respectively the last time out, with Ria Meneses, Carmela Tunay and Rica Rivera acting as support cast to help UST wiggle out of a 1-3 card tie with Adamson.
