Toni Rose Basas has the makings of a star for FEU.
The star turn for Toni Rose Basas continues here on UAAP Season 78.
Basas scored the deciding point as the FEU Lady Tamaraws secured a tough 27-25, 21-25, 25-22, 20-25, 15-12 decision over University of the Philippines in the women's volleyball tournament at the MOA Arena Sunday.
After team captain Remy Palma put FEU on match point with two clutch hits, it was Basas who finished the job with a down-the-line spike on her way to a game-high 21 points.
Bernadeth Pons likewise had her breakout performance with 21 markers of her own while Palma added 13.
"Ito yung mga kailangan namin eh," head coach Shaq Delos Santos said. "Kasi yun yung mga kulang pa ng team namin, good thing na-experience namin yung ganyan and luckily naipa-panalo namin."
The turning point came in the third set as the Lady Tamaraws, down 9-17, unleashed a 10-2 run to tie things up at 19.
A Pons hit then put FEU on top 2-1 with a comeback 25-22 victory.
After the back-and-forth affair, the Lady Tamaraws tied National University at 3-2 while the Lady Maroons dropped to 2-3.
Kathy Bersola led the fight for UP with 18 points while rookie Isabel Molde finished with 17.
