La Salle leads the UAAP in blocking, serving, setting, receiving and in digs so Mika Reyes saying her team is better than last year is absolutely right on the money.
If you ask Mika Reyes, the De La Salle University Lady Spikers are certainly better now compared last year.
Fresh from another win in Season 78 and looking ahead to their heavyweight showdown against rival Ateneo de Manila University, the senior middle blocker is confident about the new and improved Lady Spikers.
"Lahat, ayoko mag-specify ng something pero siguro naman maga-agree yung mga tao sakin na we're better than last season," Reyes said after La Salle took care of solo second with a sweep of UE last Sunday.
The numbers certainly back her up, as the Lady Spikers boast perhaps the deepest offense in the entire league.
In their match against the Lady Warriors alone, coach Ramil De Jesus fielded 13 players and 10 of them scored in the three-set affair.
The Lady Spikers are also the best team in the UAAP in terms of blocks, serves, digs as well as setting and receiving.
La Salle is also number two in spikes behind Ateneo and Ara Galang is not even the team's leading scorer, or the second.
Mary Joy Baron (12.2 points) and Reyes (10.6 points) are La Salle's top two offensive weapons so far. Imagine how good Galang (10.4 points) can be she fully finds her groove after her ACL injury.
The shock loss to NU was a harsh wakeup call for the girl in green, but they are more focused now as a result.
"Instead na parang mag-drama kami, wake-up call siya na madami pa rin kami dapat ayusin. Lahat ng teams dapat nire-respeto," she said.
Expect fireworks in the first Ateneo-La Salle match for Season 78.
