Ateneo de Manila hopes to extend its winning run to three behind Marck Espejo.
Marck Espejo and the rest of the repeat-seeking Ateneo de Manila Blue Eagles seek their third straight victory and a tighter hold of the lead on Wednesday against the University of the East Red Warriors in the 78th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
The Blue Eagles are on a two-game winning roll since stumbling against the Adamson Falcons, who they share the top spot together with idle National University Bulldogs.
Espejo, the back-to-back Most Valuable Player who is currently on top of the statistical race, nailed 13 points in Ateneo’s triumph over the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, 25-18, 25-19, 25-21, last Sunday in the “Battle of Katipunan”.
It is the Blue Eagles fourth win in five games and second straight since dropping a five-set decision over the Falcons, who are currently the hottest team in the league with four wins in a row.
Ateneo is looking to continue its streak in the 8:00 a.m. match while the Red Warriors want to arrest a five-game skid – an extension of UE’s winless stint last year.
With only Season 77 Rookie of the Year Edward Camposano and freshman Ruvince Abrot putting up decent numbers for the Red Warriors, winning against a team with a deep lineup is a difficult task.
UE is coming off a 14-25, 23-25, 21-25, beating at the hands of the Bulldogs last Saturday.
The Red Warriors are yet to win a single set this season.
