‘Anything is possible,’ say Jr. Archers versus bully Bullpups

BILOG ANG BOLA. Coach Boris Aldeguer has his DLSZ boys keeping the faith against an erstwhile unbeatable opponent.
Just last month, San Miguel made history by becoming the first team in PBA history to battle back from down 0-3 in a Finals series and bring home the championship.
Down 2-0 in the race-to-three Finals in the UAAP 78 Juniors Basketball Tournament, De La Salle Zobel is taking inspiration from the Beermen. As head coach Boris Aldeguer – a former San Miguel assistant coach – put it, “Anything is possible.”
He then continued, “Bilog ang bola e. Nangyari sa PBA. Nangyari sa volleyball.”
Indeed, Lasallians need not look far back to see how a thrice-to-beat advantage in the championship round is far from a sure thing. In 2014, De La Salle University swept the elimination round only to be upended by Alyssa Valdez-fronted Ateneo de Manila University in the Finals.
No doubt, the odds are against the Junior Archers who have been defeated by the Bullpups by an average of 22.7 points in their three season matchups. No one knows this better than MVP Aljun Melecio who has been given no space to breathe and has only averaged 17.3 points in 29 percent shooting to go along with 3.7 assists and 3.7 turnovers through those three games.
Still, the future Green Archer believes they can do the impossible. “Tiwala lang. Puso lang,” he said with a smile.
