Ateneo, UP booters battle for second straight win
BATTLE OF KATIPUNAN: Ateneo and UP battle it out on the football pitch, both seeking their second win of the season

Matches on Thursday, February 25 (Moro Lorenzo Field)

1:00 PM – Ateneo vs. UP (Men’s)

3:00 PM – UE vs. Adamson (Men’s)

The Moro Lorenzo Football Field plays host to UAAP Football’s version of “The Battle of Katipunan” as the Ateneo Blue Eagles meet the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, while the University of the East Red Warriors take on the Adamson Falcons, both in search of their first win of the season, Thursday afternoon.

After starting the season with two consecutive losses, the Ateneo booters finally found their stride last Saturday with a 4-0 drubbing of the still winless Adamson U. While there’s still a lot of football to be played this season, team captain Mikko Mabanag hopes that last weekend’s win will finally get the Blue Eagles motivated and focused, and with prized recruit Jarvey Gayoso seemingly coming into his own after scoring his third goal against the Falcons, a second consecutive win will be huge for their bid at another Final Four appearance.

Also getting off to a slow start in Season 78, the UP Maroons also jumped into the win column last Saturday after sending UE back, 2-0 behind goals from Raphael Resuma and Vince Aguilar. While the Maroons are still adjusting without a designated scorer like former UP striker Jinggoy Valmayor, coach Anto Gonzales hopes that the new-look Diliman booters can find their style as the season progresses. Still, there’s no lack of talent for the Maroons as they look to make another post-season run.

With momentum and bragging rights on the line, Ateneo and UP are sure to put on an exciting 90 minutes of football action.

Still hoping to pick up their first win of the season, the UE Red Warriors managed to hold current second placers UST to a scoreless draw for their first point of the season, but couldn’t follow up after falling to UP.

Seemingly on the same boat as the Red Warriors, Adamson came close to holding NU to a scoreless draw as well, but a late surge prevented the young Falcons from also getting a point beside their name.

Both hungry for wins, expect the Red Warriors and the Falcons to leave it all out on the pitch.
