Maroons invade Ateneo to win second straight
This round of the Battle of Katipunan goes to UP.

What a way to take a round in the Battle of Katipunan.

The Fighting Maroons invaded Ateneo's own pitch as University of the Philippines scored a 1-0 win over the Blue Eagles in the UAAP Season 78 men's football tournament at the Moro Lorenzo Field Thursday.

Kyle Magdato converted at the 29th minute off a Raphael Resuma miss for the game's first and only goal.

It was all the Maroons needed to take their second straight win, this at Ateneo's own home turf.

"The first half was out best half of the season. We dominated every aspect of the game, I thought we were very successful in stopping their counterattacks," head coach Anto Gonzales said.

Sitting tied for third place with idle UST with seven points and starting to build a little momentum, Gonzales still wants his boys to improve on a lot of things, particularly finishing on the offensive side of the ballgame.

Even after playing their "best half of the season" he did not really like how the Maroons failed to score some more and how the game turned "wide open" in the final 15 minutes.

"I wasn't happy on how we finished the game, it's going to be a continous process of trying to improve yung finishing namin," he added.

The Maroons continue to make their climb up the standings when they face Adamson University on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Ateneo, which faces NU on Sunday, are tied with Adamson in seventh place with three points each.
