"It feels really comforting to have that solidified that I am graduating with honors from the school that I love thats given so much to me." --- JR Gallarza on graduating Magna Cum Laude.
If you look up the word "student-athlete" on the dictionary, you'll probably find a photo of JR Gallarza right next to it.
And now, the Fighting Maroons captain will graduate Magna Cum Laude from the University of the Philippines.
Talk about some student-athlete goals.
It was a long journey for Gallarza, who started out his collegiate career in De La salle, but it has been worth it especially since his final standing was a mystery up to the very end.
"When I was trying to do prior calculations to it before the semester and it was kinda like stressing me out and I’ll leave it up to God, my grades and how I’d do. When the semester finished I still didnt really know," Gallarza said. "But now that I am it feels really comforting to have that solidified that I am graduating with honors from the school that I love thats given so much to me, yeah its amazing."
Gallarza, who likewise played his final UAAP game in UP's most memorable season in a long time, graduated with a degree in Education Teaching in Early Grades and is now working in Canada as a program director for the YMCA that helps on after-school programs for kindergarden students.
While he's not sure if he can come back to the Philippines in time for his graduation, Gallarza proved that student-athletes are no slouch inside the classroom.
