NU’s Kapampangan connection now also Mythical selections
STRAIGHT OUTTA PAMPANGA. Pampanga is further solidifying its renown as a hotbed of talent with Justine Baltazar and John Lloyd Clemente the latest one to receive individual honors.

No doubt, Nazareth School of National University’s dominance in the UAAP 78 Juniors Basketball Tournament has been built upon team effort.

Still, any solid structure must have pillars and for the Bullpups, Justine Baltazar and John Lloyd Clemente are definitely it.

The key cogs in NU’s drive towards a second perfect season in the past three years finished second and third in the MVP race. Towering Baltazar led the league in rebounds (13.5/game) and blocks (2.5/game) while also contributing 13.4 points per game and versatile Clemente normed an all-around 16.4 points, 7.9 rebounds, and two assists.

Rounding out the Mythical Team are MVP Aljun Melecio of De La Salle Zobel and the Gomez de Liano brothers of University of the Philippines Integrated School.

Their team only won thrice, but the two undoubtedly starred during the season with the older Javi averaging 15.2 points and 8.5 rebounds and the younger Juan producing 15.6 points, 4.5 assists, and 8.2 rebounds per game.

The other two playoff squads – Ateneo de Manila High School and Far Eastern University-Diliman – had no representatives in the Mythical Team.
