Ang masasabi ko lang wala dapat ilagay na issue doon --- DLSU's Mika Reyes
De La Salle University star Mika Reyes was quick to extinguish any issue regarding her reaction after her huge denial against Ateneo de Manila ace Alyssa Valdez in the second set of the Lady Spikers’ 25-22, 25-14, 25-18, win over the Lady Eagles on Saturday.
“Ang masasabi ko lang wala dapat ilagay na issue doon,” said Reyes, who had a pair of blocks in her total of nine points.
The rematch of last year’s Finals series was a one-sided affair with DLSU exacting revenge on the Lady Eagles in the 78th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the Big Dome that ended the Lady Spikers’ 6-game losing streak to their bitter rivals.
But the highlight and the most-talked about play of the game happened in the second set when Reyes single-handedly blocked the patented back row attack of the reigning back-to-back Most Valuable Player that buried Ateneo deeper to a 23-13 hole.
The denial itself drew a loud reaction from the crowd but Reyes added a little color as she gave Valdez, who was down on the floor, a stare down before turning her back from the net and stuck her tongue out.
Fans gave different meanings on Reyes’ reaction on social media. Reyes is the ex-girlfriend of former Ateneo cager Kiefer Ravena, who is currently being linked with Valdez.
But the DLSU middle blocker said that it was just part of the game.
“Adrenaline rush lang talaga siya and siguro ‘yun lang talaga ang na-miss sa akin ng mga tao,” she said. “Part ng game ‘yun, kahit naman mga teammates ko nasi-single block siya ah?”
Valdez was limited to only 11 points as DLSU snapped Ateneo’s 24-game winning streak dating back in Season 76’s Games 3 and 4 that dethroned the then three-time champion Lady Spikers.
