The Ateneo Lady Eagles admit they got nervous in their heavyweight showdown against the Lady Spikers
No excuses on the side of two-time defending champion Ateneo Lady Eagles but they admit there were quite a few butterflies on their stomach against rival La Salle last Saturday.
As Ateneo suffered its first defeat since Season 76 via an impressive sweep by the Lady Spikers, key Lady Eagles said that nerves got in the way of their heavyweight showdown at the Big Dome.
"I think nerves got in the way," senior Amy Ahomiro said. "They were very loud at the net and cheering super loud so I think it kind of made us a little nervous."
Ahomiro, who sprained her ankle in practice, gave praise to the Lady Spikers for coming out to win.
"They played better than us. They were just on top of it the whole time," she said.
Setter Jia Morado likewise said that the Lady Eagles were not particularly on their game in the finals rematch.
She did however, add that Ateneo is capable of bouncing back because that is what the team does.
"May iba lang talaga samin na medyo naunahan ng nerves," Morado said. "Maaga pa naman, makakabawi din kami. That is what we do naman in training we try to impove kahit panalo."
