FEU staying afloat in season full of bumps and bruises

The Lady Tamaraws are keeping their heads above the water despite continued problems of inconsistency and a few bruises.
Maybe the reason why Far Eastern University remains inconsistent in the UAAP Season 78 women's volleyball tournament is that the Lady Tamaraws can't seem to function at full strength.
But despite their struggle to put together a decent winning streak and quite a few bumps and bruises here and there, the Lady Tamaraws end round 1 with a respectable 4-3 record, one set away from going to a more impressive 5-2 slot and solo third place.
Bernadeth Pons for example, who remains at 80 percent as she works her way through lingering back pain, is slowly starting to regain her deadly form for FEU, averaging over 21 points since she returned to the starting lineup a couple of weeks ago.
"Meron pa ding pain na nararamdaman pero sabi ko sa kanila 'hindi natin kailangan magdahilan na merong masakit ngayon kasi nasa game tayo' sa practice kaya natin i-adjust yan pero pagdating ng game kailangan every galaw mai-ayos," head coach Shaq Delos Santos said after his wards dismantled National University in straight sets, a game after they lost a 2-0 to the Adamson Lady Falcons.
"Mga 20 percent na lang, meron pa din [sakit] pero sobrang baba na lang," Pons said describing where her health is right now at the mid-way point of the season.
Aside from Pons, libero Ria Duremdes played with a stiff neck against the Lady Bulldogs and Toni Rose Basas was likewise bothered by her knee. However, coach Shaq is liking how the Lady Tamaraws continue to adjust and play well under pressure.
He just hopes his team finally gains some more consistency when round 2 rolls around.
"Honestly speaking ako hindi ako kuntento," Delos Santos said. "Hopefully this coming second round mas masagot namin yung problema namin."
The Lady Tamaraws will be joined by either NU or UP, two teams they already vanquished this season, for joint third place as the first round wraps up.
