By the Numbers: Sweep Revenge
The sweep that took everybody (except probably the Lady Spikers themselves) by surprise.

The Ateneo Lady Eagles swept rival La Salle in the UAAP Season 77 finals so naturally, the Lady Spikers swept the two-time defending champions when the two teams met for the first time a year later.

Easily the biggest story of Season 78 so far, we will not stop talking about that rousing victory by the girls in green until probably the next Ateneo-La Salle joust in round 2.

And here, we talk about the numbers that defined that big week.

Enjoy.

16,536

Number of volleyball fans that went to the Big Dom expecting fireworks but instead got a good old-fashioned beating.

Sure, not all of those fans were sad they only got a three-set affair, those who wore green probably had the best time of their season seeing their team smash their most hated rivals.

24

The number of consecutive wins by Ateneo dating back to Season 76 before finally losing to La Salle.

Not to take away anything from the Lady Spikers but that feat by the Lady Eagles sure was impressive.

By the way, Golden State was the first thing Alyssa Valdez said when she was reminded, for the last time, about the number of wins they had.

7

Number of aces fired by Kim Fajardo last Saturday including three in the 8-0 haymaker La Salle landed to start set number 2.

Fajardo went on to finish with a career-high 13 points and her seven aces allowed her to overtake Ateneo's Maddie Madayag as the league's best server so far.

6

Consecutive games lost by La Salle to Ateneo before finally taking one last Saturday.

Those defeats were games 3 and 4 of the UAAP Season 76 finals and all four games from Season 77 including the championship series that was over in two games.

51

Number of consecutive losses by the UE Lady Warriors.

Ending round 1 with a record of 0-7, the Lady Warriors need to start working double time if they want to avoid this number going up.
