University of Sto. Tomas crushed De La Salle to end a three-game losing slump.
Newcomer Manuel Medina and third year player Arnold Bautista delivered the much-needed productions to help University of Sto. Tomas arrest a three-game losing skid to end the 78th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament first round of eliminations on a high note Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan.
The Growling Tigers collected their second win in seven games in a swift 25-23, 25-21, 25-19, victory to add more woes to an already lost De La Salle University Green Spikers.
Medina, a 16-year-old recruit from Jose Rizal Institute, posted 14 points coming from 12 kills and a pair of kill blocks while Bautista smashed 10 attacks in his total of 11 markers for UST, which climbed to sixth spot.
Jason Sarabia finished with nine points while Patrick Balse and Tyrone Carodan added eight markers each for the Tigers. Timothy Tajanlangit dished out 26 excellent sets in the Espana-based squad’s 48 attack points that riddled the defense of DLSU.
The Green Spikers slid to six straight losses after winning their season opener against winless Universty of the East.
Only Raymark Woo scored in double figures for the Taft-based squad with a game-high 18 points. John Onia had nine.
