FEU out for revenge, Ateneo wants repeat win
Far Eastern University wants to avenge one of its two first round losses when it battles Ateneo de Manila University at the start of the second round.

Far Eastern University head coach Reynaldo Diaz’s marching order for the Tamaraws in the final phase of the elimination round is to get back at their first round tormentors.

The Tamaraws will have their chance on Saturday when they open the second round elims against the defending champion Ateneo de Manila Blue Eagles in the 78th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

Sitting at solo third place with a 5-2 win-loss record, FEU hopes to extend its three-game winning streak and pull the Blue Eagles out of the top spot they share with the Adamson University Falcons, the other team that defeated the Tams.

"Dalawa lang naman 'yung teams na talaga gusto naming mabalikan sa second round, 'yung mga tumalo sa amin nitong first round,” said Diaz.

Game time is set at 10:00 a.m. and will air live on ABS-CBN Sports+Action Channel 23, ABS-CBN Sports+Action HD Channel 166 and via livestream at sports.abs-cbn.com/livestream/uaap.

The Morayta-based squad is coming off a 25-19, 22-25, 26-24, 25-20 victory Wednesday over last year’s runner up National University behind the trio of JP Bugaoan, Jeric Gacutan and Jude Garcia.

But avenging their loss, a straight sets 18-25, 19-25, 13-25 beating almost a month ago, won’t be an easy task for FEU.

Ateneo, which is perched on top of the standings with a 6-1 slate tied with Adamson, is also on a roll.

After dropping a five-set match over the Falcons, the Blue Eagles knocked down their next four opponents capped by an easy 25-19, 25-15, 25-15, crushing of NU a week ago in a rematch of last year’s Finals.

League-leading scorer and reigning back-to-back Most Valuable Player Marck Espejo, Rex Intal, Joshua Villanueva, Ysay Marasigan and Season 77 Finals MVP Ish Polvorosa are expected to power the Blue Eagles to complete an elims sweep against FEU.
