Ateneo's character to be tested in 'Battle of Katipunan'
Alyssa Valdez of Ateneo de Manila will try to rally the Lady Eagles back in the win column against a streaking University of the Philippines side.

Ateneo de Manila’s character will be tested when reigning Most Valuable Player Alyssa Valdez and the rest of the Lady Eagles battle their Katipunan neighbor University of the Philippines in the 78th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament second round at The Arena in San Juan on Sunday.

After having their 24-game winning streak snapped by bitter rival De La Salle University to close the first round of eliminations last week, the Lady Eagles look to rediscover their winning ways against a team they defeated in straight sets in their first meeting.

The slated 4:00 p.m. Ateneo-UP joust will air live on ABS-CBN Sports+Action Channel 23, ABS-CBN Sports+Action HD Channel 166 and via livestream at sports.abs-cbn.com/livestream/uaap.

Despite the loss – a 22-25, 14-25, 18-25 shocker last Saturday – the Lady Eagles are still perched on top of the standings with a 6-1 win-loss record.

The defeat against the Lady Spikers is Ateneo’s first loss since surrendering Game 2 of the Finals in Season 76 to DLSU.

UP is coming off a straight sets 25-19, 25-21, 25-20 win over National University and is looking to extend its winning streak to three behind prized recruits Isa Molde, Diana Carlos and Justine Dorog.

Head coach Jerry Yee will also bank on his veterans Kathy Bersola and Nicole Tiamzon to avenge the 19-25, 21-25, 21-25 heartache they received from the Lady Eagles on Valentine’s Day.

UP is in solo third place with 4-3 card.
