National University hopes to start a winning streak and build confidence versus University of the East.
National University coach Dante Alinsunurin is looking at the Bulldogs eliminations rematch against the University of the East on Wednesday as a chance to sharpen their claws heading into a bigger duel this weekend.
Without getting overconfident, the Bulldogs mentor said that the 8:00 a.m. tussle against the winless Red Warriors in the 78th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City could serve as a rallying point in their mission to exact revenge on first round tormentor defending champion Ateneo de Manila on Sunday.
“Hindi naman sa paga-ano pero 'yung game namin sa UE umaasa kami na mape-prepare kami nu'n para sa laro namin against Ateneo,” said Alinsunurin moments after NU arrested a two-game slide with a morale-boosting 25-23, 25-23, 25-27, 25-22, win against Adamson last Sunday.
The Bulldogs will take on the Blue Eagles next, two weeks after the Katipunan-based squad crushed NU in straight sets.
Madzlan Gampong, James Natividad, Bryan Bagunas, Francis Saura and veteran setter Vince Mangulabnan are Alinsunurin’s weapons in their mission to wiggle out of a two-way logjam with Far Eastern University in third to fourth spot with 5-3 win-loss slate.
The Bulldogs are favored to make a repeat of their 25-14, 25-23, 25-21, first round conquest of UE, which is still down the cellar with 0-8 card and a total of 22-game losing skid.
With only Season 77 Rookie of the Year Edward Camposano and freshman Ruvince Abrot contributing consistently on offense, the Red Warriors could be looking at another defeat to follow their 13-25, 15-25, 11-25 surrender to University of Sto. Tomas at the start of the second round last Sunday.
