Marco Sario: The other half of DLSZ’s backcourt bombers
JUST THE START. Marco Sario hopes that his breakout season will let him reach greater heights.

Marco Sario’s rookie season was, quite frankly, forgettable.

A third-year high schooler who was a first-timer in the UAAP a year ago, the De La Salle Zobel guard only saw action in eight out of 16 games and averaged 4.8 points.

Fortunately for the diminutive but gutsy kid, the tides thoroughly turned for him all throughout the recently concluded 78th Season. Not only playing, but starting in all 17 games, he impressed with per game counts of 11.3 points in 33 percent shooting from distance to go along with 3.6 assists and emerged as the wingman for season MVP Aljun Melecio.

Sario was nothing but grateful to coach Boris Aldeguer for giving him the opportunity. “Last year was a struggle for me because I was a rookie and wala talagang experience sa UAAP,” he told ABS-CBN Sports.

He then continued, “I’m just really thankful na nabigyan ako ng opportunity.”

Of course, the pint-sized but big-hearted bomber’s emergence wasn’t all on the Junior Archers’ mentor. As he shared, “Coach Boris gave me the confidence, but I really worked on improving nung summer and during the season.”

With his Juniors career now over, Sario hopes that his stay on the big-time stage lasts longer than 15 seconds. Whether that be together with backcourt-mate Melecio over at De La Salle University or wherever else, he said, “Dream ko po talaga to play college ball. Kaya sana, sana po talaga matuloy pa.”
