Every game naman in-expect ko na papasukin ako ni coach Tai kasi lagi nilang sinasabi na mag-warmup ako kahit nasa sideline lang --- Kim Gequillana
Kim Gequillana may be overshadowed by the bright stars in the two-time defending champion Ateneo de Manila lineup, but when head coach Tai Bundit called her number Wednesday, the third year player delivered big time.
The Lady Eagles arrested a two-game slide with Gequillana chipping in valuable points to tame the National University Lady Bulldogs, 26-24, 25-17, 25-19, and regain the hold of the leaderboard in the 78th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the MOA Arena in Pasay City.
The 19-year-old product of St. John Institute-Bacolod scored nine points coming from four service aces while adding seven excellent digs to chip in on defense for the 7-2 Ateneo.
“Of course happy ako kasi naka-contribute ako sa team,” said the soft-spoken Gequillana.
Gequillana’s brightest moment of the match was in the second frame when the Lady Eagle hit two straight service winners in Ateneo’s 6-1 blitz in the second set that broke a 7-7 deadlock.
“Every game naman in-expect ko na papasukin ako ni coach Tai kasi lagi nilang sinasabi na mag-warmup ako kahit nasa sideline lang. Parang be ready just in case may mangyari, ayun,” she said.
