Ateneo de Manila's Ysay Marasigan places a drop shot away from the outstretched hands of University of the Philippines' Alfred Valbuena.
Ateneo de Manila gave its women's team a payback as the defending champion Blue Eagles swept the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons in their own version of "Battle of Katipunan" on Wednesday.
It took the Blue Eagles only 78 minutes to duplicate its first round win over the Maroons and extend their winning streak to six in an easy 25-9, 27-25, 25-15, conquest in the 78th UAAP men's volleyball tournament at the MOA Arena in Pasay City.
Ysay Marasigan and reigning back-to-back Most Valuable Player Marck Espejo led Ateneo to its eighth win in nine games to remain on the top spot with 16 and 15 points, respectively.
The duo split 24 of the Blue Eagles' 46 attack points with 31 of it coming from playmaker and Season 77 Finals MVP Ish Polvorosa's excellent sets.
The win gave Ateneo some sort of vengeance after the Lady Eagles dropped a four-set decision over the Lady Maroons in the distaff side last Sunday that hurled the Alyssa Valdez-led squad to back-to-back losses.
The Blue Eagles blanked the Maroons in blocking (8-0) and service winners (6-0).
UP fell to 4-5 card and failed to capitalize on Ateneo’s 27 errors.
Alfred Valbuena was limited to only seven points while Wendel Miguel had five as the Diliman-based squad dropped its second straight.
