Adamson's men's volleyball coach Domingo Custodio replaced Sherwin Meneses as the Lady Falcons' interim mentor.
Adamson University formally accepted the resignation of its women’s volleyball team coach Sherwin Meneses and assigned its men’s squad tactician Domingo Custodio as the Lady Falcons interim coach for the remainder of the 78th UAAP tournament.
The university’s Office for Athletics and Recreation (OAR) released its statement Friday afternoon.
“On March 10, 2016, the Adamson University received the notice of sudden resignation of erstwhile Lady Falcons head coach, Sherwin Meneses,” according to the statement. “While it is unfortunate that the said decision has been reached midway through the season, the University passes the torch to current head coach of the Falcon’s men’s volleyball team, coach Domingo Custodio.”
In a report Thursday, Meneses declared his intention to vacate the position he held for four seasons citing the difference in direction he and the team management wanted for the squad.
Adamson expressed its full confidence on Custodio to turn the team’s season around.
“Known as coach Domeng in the local volleyball community, we trust that his fighter attitude and vast experience will rub off to the Lady Falcons while he serves as interim head coach for the remainder of the season,” the statement continues. “Coach Domeng has led the Adamson men’s volleyball team to four straight Final Four appearances in the UAAP starting Season 74.”
“A league leader in the current season of UAAP men’s volleyball, we wish him luck as he tries to steer the Lady Falcons to the best finish possible this season.”
The Lady Falcons are having a rough campaign with only three wins in eight games at seventh spot.
Adamson absorbed a 18-25, 12-25, 18-25, loss last Sunday and will take on the young University of the Philippines, which defeated the Lady Falcons in four sets in the first round, on Saturday.
Meneses replaced Dulce Pante at the helm of the Lady Falcons in Season 75 where Adamson finished third. The following year the San Marcelino-based squad dropped to fourth before falling out of the top four in Season 77.
