Vengeful La Salle dominates UST in straight sets.
There were no shock defeats this time around, the Lady Spikers just flexed their collective muscles instead.
La Salle displayed its usual deadly form and made quick work of the UST Golden Tigresses, 25-11, 25-13, 25-17 in the second round of the UAAP Season 78 women's volleyball tournament at the San Juan Arena Saturday.
Losing to the very same UST team just a couple of weeks ago to end round one, the Lady Spikers showed no mercy and dominated the Tigresses right from the first serve.
The Lady Spikers once again grabbed a piece of first place with a 7-2 record and created some valuable space ahead of their matchup with UP.
UST, coming off back-to-back victories, dropped to 4-5.
"Maganda lang gising siguro," head coach Ramil De Jesus said as La Salle becomes the first team to sweep the Tigresses this season. "One week din kami nakapag-pahinga para sa game na to, kita ko naman sa mga bata gusto talaga nila makabawi."
The Lady Spikers did just that as they wrapped up the opening set in just a little over 20 minutes.
After a service error, La Salle scored eight straight to take an 8-1 lead in set 1 that was an early indication of what the game would become.
It took them a little longer in the second set but the Lady Spikers pulled away nevertheless to score a 25-13 win and a 2-0 lead.
The Tigresses managed to save a couple of match points in the third set but it didn't really matter as the Lady Spikers returned the beating they received back in round 1.
Kim Dy is the latest Lady Spiker to lead the team in scoring with 12 points while the tandem of Mika Reyes and Ara Galang added 11 apiece.
No player scored in double digits for UST as EJ Laure only managed eight to lead the Espana-based squad.
The Tigresses won four of their last five heading into the matchup.
