University of Sto. Tomas eyes return to the win column when the Tigresses face the reeling Adamson Lady Falcons.
University of Sto. Tomas hopes to recover from a devastating loss the last time out when the Golden Tigresses take on a reeling Adamson Lady Falcons Wednesday in the 78th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
Opening spike is set at 2:00 p.m. and will air live over ABS-CBN Sports+Action Channel 23, ABS-CBN Sports+Action HD Channel 166 and via livestream on sports.abs-cbn.com/livestream/uaap.
The Tigresses absorbed a severe beating last Saturday at the hands of De La Salle, 11-25, 13-25, 17-25, in the Lady Spikers' revenge win against the team that dealt them a straight sets loss to end first round.
UST coach Kung Fu Reyes expects his top hitters Cherry Rondina and EJ Laure to bounce back after a dry spell against the Lady Spikers when the duo scored a combined 15 points to slide down to sixth spot with a 4-5 win-loss record.
“Ang hinahabol lang namin ngayon ay ‘yung makaabot kami sa no. 3 o dun sa no. 4,” said Reyes, who is trying to steer UST back in the semifinals after three years of absence.
The Espana-based squad is just a win away to tie National University and Far Eastern University, which share the fourth to fifth spot (5-5).
UST is also looking to avenge its five-set 22-25, 21-25, 25-20, 30-28, 14-16 loss to Adamson in their season opener last February 3 where Rondina exploded for a career-high 30 points.
The Lady Falcons are down with two straight defeats to open the second round and are in a dangerous position to miss the cut in the Final Four race with a 3-6 card.
Adamson bowed to a younger University of the Philippines side, 23-25, 22-25, 22-25, last Saturday in the Lady Falcons’ first game under interim coach Domeng Custodio, who replaced Sherwin Meneses who resigned from his position due to differences with the team management last week.
