Maddie Madayag is feared to have suffered an ACL injury during Ateneo de Manila's team practice Tuesday.
Ateneo de Manila University team manager Tony Boy Liao confirmed Wednesday morning that Lady Eagle Maddie Madayag suffered a knee injury during training and the team is still awaiting the result of her test to determine its extent.
“Nangyari ito yesterday sa practice, actually, after na nga ng practice habang nasa spiking drill,” Liao told ABS-CBN Sports, who added that he fears of a possible anterior cruciate ligament tear on the second year middle blocker's right knee. “Tapos na ang practice noon and nagi-spike na lang sila nina Alyssa (Valdez) and 'yung iba pa. Nangyari 'yun after nu’ng running spike niya and she got it on her own.”
Liao added that Madayag is scheduled for an examination under Dr. Raul Canlas Wednesday morning.
“Nu’ng nangyari 'yung accident tiningnan siya ng PT (physical therapist) namin and pinisil-pisil. Ang sabi niya ay possible ACL (injury) pero siyempre ang may last say pa rin ay si Dr. (Raul) Canlas. Titingnan siya this morning,” he said.
Madayag is playing consistently this season in Ateneo’s bid for a three-peat, topping the serving category after the first round and a vital cog in the middle.
The Lady Eagles are on top of the standings with an 8-2 win-loss record.
If their worst fears are confirmed, Liao said that they are looking at Amy Ahomiro and Bea De Leon to fill in for Madayag’s position.
