Ateneo football fans should be excited with this crafty striker
Jarvey Gayoso has been the talk of the town, in terms of Ateneo football this season, and rightfully so. The kid has been the Blue Eagle booters’ leading scorer and has pretty much shown what the future holds for the Ateneo Men’s Football team.
Gayoso however, isn’t the only rookie that’s given the Katipunan faithful something to be excited about.
Against University of the East, Thursday afternoon, and playing without Gayoso, the Blue Eagles got a much-needed boost from Japanese recruit Mashu Yoshioka, who carried the team on his back and scored a brace in just four minutes, ultimately swinging the momentum in favor of the Ateneans, who escaped with an important 3-2 win.
Ateneo coach JP Merida was very pleased at what he saw from Yoshioka and says that what he, and everyone who witnessed Mashu’s brilliance on the pitch against UE, was “the real Mashu”.
“Until now, hindi ko parin nakikita yung laro mo” Merida told ABS-CBN Sports what he says he keeps on telling Mashu.
“Yung first year niya kasi, ready to play in the UAAP na siya, ang nangyari lang, kasi he’s a graduate from abroad, automatically may one year na residency.” Merida added.
“Ang sinasabi ko lagi sa kanya, gusto ko lang ibalik yung laro niya, so at least ngayon, nakita ko na how Mashu plays, yung normal na Mashu na nakikita ko talaga. Ito na ‘yun. Sana tuloy-tuloy na for the last six games of the second round.”
If this is indeed the “real Mashu”, then we can bet that Ateneo is going to be a real force in football in the coming years.
