Paolo Salenga (19) scored four goals and dished out two assists to help the NU Bulldogs demolish the Adamson Falcons, 7-0
Paolo Salenga scored not one, not two, not three, but four goals, while three other Bulldogs chipped in, as National University demolished Adamson, 7-0, Thursday evening at the Moro Lorenzo Football Field in Ateneo.
Salenga went to work early for the Bulldogs, scoring five minutes in, and then easily tipping another one in at the 15th minute to give NU an early 2-0 advantage.
Before the half was over though, Salenga played distributor, as he found Marole Bungay for the 41st minute goal and a commanding 3-0 lead at the half.
The Falcons came out more aggressive in the second half, looking to pull one back, or even work their way to tying the match as they pressured the Bulldogs and had their fair share of the possession.
Unfortunately for the Falcons, Salenga wasn’t done, not by a long shot, as he scored in the completed the hat trick in the 58th minute, scoring from an NU corner kick.
Things pretty much got out of hand for Adamson when Salenga found his fourth goal of the evening in the 64th minute for a double-brace and a 5-0 lead midway through the second half.
Salenga would have his hand at another NU conversion, recording his second assist as he back-heeled the ball to an open Lawrence Colina who beat Adamson keeper Carl Viray for NU’s sixth goal of the match.
The final blow came from Patrick Valenzuela just a couple of minutes later, scoring goal number seven and putting the match way out of reach.
For Salenga, it wasn’t about his monster four goal performance, rather it was about the win and carrying momentum into their upcoming games.
“Masaya kasi nanalo kami, para madala namin yung momentum sa next game and para maka-pasok kami sa Final Four, kasi yung mga natitira na game namin, crucial game yun para sa amin.” Salenga told ABS-CBN Sports following the match.
The win pushes NU back into the top four with three wins, three draws, two losses, and 12 points.
“Consistency lang, para mag-stay kami sa top four. One game at a time, focus lang, consistency and hard work lang.” Salenga said.
Adamson remains at the seventh spot with one win and seven losses for three points this season.
